$75,000 Matching Gift Doubles Donations for Shelter Animals in Need

Pope Memorial Humane Society (PMHS) is thrilled to announce an incredible opportunity for supporters to make an even bigger difference in the lives of homeless animals in need. Thanks to the extraordinary generosity of Dr. Henry LaBrie and Martine Richard LaBrie of Friendship, every donation to PMHS will be matched dollar for dollar, up to $75,000. This means we have the potential to raise a total of $150,000 for the Sherman Medical Fund, directly funding life-saving veterinary care for animals who need it most.

The Sherman Medical Fund was established in 2020 to provide medical treatment for shelter animals. It was inspired by Sherman, a tiny kitten who survived a fast-moving brush fire alongside his siblings. The kittens suffered burns, smoke inhalation, and singed fur, requiring intensive veterinary care. Today, the fund continues to ensure that every pet entering our doors receives the medical attention they need to recover, heal, and find loving homes.

“This $75,000 matching gift from Dr. Henry LaBrie and Martine Richard LaBrie will profoundly impact the lives of countless animals who come through our doors needing medical attention,” said Tracy Sala, PMHS Executive Director. “The Sherman Medical Fund is vital to our ability to provide everything from routine care to life-saving surgeries, and this matching campaign will empower our community to make an even bigger difference. We extend our sincere thanks to Dr. and Mrs. LaBrie for their compassionate leadership and generosity.”

The Sherman Medical Fund in Action

The Sherman Medical Fund has already changed the lives of many animals at PMHS, including:

  • Cupid, the cat, was found caught in a rat trap. His injuries required the amputation of his right rear leg, but thanks to the Sherman Medical Fund, he is healing beautifully and will soon be available for adoption.
  • Dotty’s six puppies needed age-appropriate vaccinations, deworming, flea/tick treatment, and spay/neuter surgeries before finding loving homes.
  • Catthiew, the cat, was hit by a car and required surgery to repair his pelvis. He still has a few weeks of recovery before becoming available for adoption.
  • Dozens of kittens arrive at PMHS every week and need immediate flea/tick treatments and dewormer before heading to foster homes to grow strong and healthy.
