Finding that soft place to land

From the desk of Pope Memorial Humane Society’s Shelter Manager Theresa Gargan,

Many animals at our shelter were once beloved family members. As we all know life sometimes changes our plans. The loss of a job, having to move, or a death in the family can leave no other option but to rehome our best friends.

One day, they are feeling safe and secure and the next are in a strange place with people they don’t know. It can be incredibly hard, especially for the older cats and dogs. Though we give them much comfort and love while they are with us, it is not the same as a real home. Every one of them deserves a soft place to land; a cozy couch or warm lap to sleep on.

I would like to introduce you to two such pets and hope it inspires someone to be that special home.

Kiki’s little feline face is one of the cutest around. She came to us after the loss of her owner and the only home she ever knew. Kiki is 9 years old, so she has many years of affection to share with a new family. She grew up with a little dog and prefers canine companionship. Her perfect home would be low key, with lots of spots to curl up in the sun. Not much to ask for in exchange for an amazing new friend.

Wanda missed the memo about slowing down as you get older. This beautiful 7-year-old Labrador mix is always on the go. Hike? Why, yes. Jog? Whenever you’re ready. After all that, a nice cuddle on the couch to recharge for the next adventure. It’s obvious Wanda once had a family who loved her, and she would like nothing more than to share a home and energy with someone equally as active.

If Kiki or Wanda sound like they might be your next best friend, get in touch with us for more information. Adoption applications can be found at popehumane.org.

Wish list this week: Canned pate cat food, pate canned cat food and canned cat food of the pate variety (poultry flavored preferred).

Yes, we have lots of kitty mouths to feed!

As always, thank you for your support.
