Maybe you’re already thinking past Halloween and towards the yummy days of November? If so, you should attend the Tasting Event and Cookbook Release party at PMHS on Saturday, Nov. 13, from 1-3 p.m. A limited number of tickets are available for this delicious event, which highlights recipes from PMHS’s new cookbook: “Recipes to the Rescue.” Tickets are $10 each, and give you the opportunity to taste up to 15 different dishes, as well as be the first community members to purchase “Recipes to the Rescue.” For more information visit www.popehumane.org.

There are quite a lot of animals in the care of Pope Memorial Humane Society right now. Have you been thinking about adopting? Are you ready to add a new member to your family? There are currently dogs, cats, guinea pigs, rabbits and gerbils available for adoption right now. The first step, head to www.popehumane.org to see current adoptable animals and fill out the online adoption application. Once you have completed the app, wait 24 to 48 hours for processing and call the shelter at 207-594-2200 for a status update.

Might I recommend stopping by the shelter to visit Ally, the cat? This gal has blossomed under the care of PMHS staff and volunteers. Initially very shy, she now comes out for lots of head pets and treats. She will make an excellent addition to a home with plenty of cozy blankets and sunny windows for her cat naps.

Looking for a goofy, energetic dog? What about Gibbs? A great dane mix, this big guy graduated from the K9 Corrections program and is looking for a family to continue his training. Eager to please, he loves playgroups with other dogs and long walks through the woods.

Ready to adopt, but not sure what type of animal to add to your home? Visit the shelter. PMHS adoption counselors will be happy to match you with the perfect animal.

Wish list: pate style chicken recipe canned kitten/cat food, Temptation’s cat treats, 8 ½ by 11 copy paper and angled brooms.
