Artist Christine Cahalane’s new exhibition on display at PMHS
Pope Memorial Humane Society is thrilled to announce the newest exhibition of artwork is now being displayed on the Art Wall in the lobby of Pope Memorial Humane Society. The current show, featuring pieces by Christine Cahalane will be on display and available for purchase through November 30, 2022.
Christine is a primarily self-taught artist who started with a Jon Gnagy drawing set at age seven. She studied foundational art and photojournalism at Syracuse University, where her skills and knowledge increased, along with museum visits, books, videos, and practice. She then turned her attention to understanding color and composition using watercolors, oils, and pastels.
“Life paths led me to military service, freelance writing, and classroom teaching in elementary and middle school, but time in rural Connecticut and summers in Maine provided ample opportunities to observe, photograph, and paint. My art depicts the life, light, and color that are my world vision. My themes include children and animals, landscapes, shadows, sunsets, boats, and reflections. I work in varied media, but love working in pastel and oil.”
In addition to being a part of the Maine Audubon juried plein air “Brush with Nature” this year, Christine’s work has been in several juried shows at the Silo in Connecticut. She is proud to display her work at Pope Memorial Humane Society through November 30.
You can find Christine most days working from her studio/gallery, Dragusta Gallery, located at 313 Martin Point Road in Friendship, or painting plein air around Maine’s coast.
Pope Memorial Humane Society is currently open Monday through Saturday from 11 am to 4 pm. We encourage our community to visit the shelter and see Christine’s artwork and adoptable animals. If you are interested in exhibiting your work on the PMHS Art Wall, please email art@popehumane.org.
The mission of Pope Memorial Humane Society is to ensure the compassionate care, treatment, and placement of companion animals in transition and enrich the lives of pets and people in our community.
