Gooney Says ‘Thank you!’ to Generous Donors

You may have heard Pope Memorial Humane Society began a matching gift campaign Feb. 14. We might have mentioned it a few times. An anonymous donor pledged $10,000 as a matching gift if we could raise $10,000. That total of $20,000 would cover veterinary bills at the shelter through April. You can probably imagine the excitement and urgency to reach that goal.

Well, it took less than two weeks to meet the goal. You came out in full force to help the animals of Pope Memorial. You made sure the shelter hit their $10,000 goal, and then some. You helped the shelter raise (with the matching gift included) over $24,000 for the Sherman Medical Fund. You ensured the animals of Pope Memorial would receive much-needed medical care.

Gooney (photo above), who has someone interested in adopting her if we can get her stomach issues under control, will undergo testing and try new foods. Cinnamon, the cat who came in with fur so matted, a comb could not be run through it and has kidney issues, is receiving the medical care needed to ensure he can be available for adoption.

Puppies, so many people are looking for puppies. Puppies in foster homes will receive their vaccinations, and once old enough, be spayed/neutered because of the money you raised. Stray animals who come into Pope Memorial and are not claimed by owners will receive all their vaccinations and everything else needed to make them adoptable.

Now, time for a few reminders. Pope Memorial Humane Society is still closed to public visits, but all programs and services, including adoptions, are happening by appointment. If you are interested in adopting, fill out the online adoption application at popehumane.org.
