Honoring Those We Love While Helping Animals

This week’s “Lost, Found and Looking” column is from the desk of Pope Memorial Humane Society’s Development Director Chrys deLorimier.

Did you know you can tell someone you are thinking of them and help a homeless animal at the same time?

Many people made a gift to Pope Memorial Humane Society in honor of someone they are thinking about. The shelter sends your friend or loved one a card to let them know you made a gift in their honor (if you provide an address for them).

You can also make a gift remembering someone (human or pet,) who is no longer with us. Any support can make the difference for a pet waiting for a loving home. Give online at PopeHumane.org, or mail a check to P.O. Box 1294, Rockland ME 04841.

Calvin (photo above) is waiting for his own loving home! This 3 1/2-year-old gray, tuxedo kitty is FIV+, but knows that isn’t going to keep him from living a long, healthy life with standard veterinary care. Described as handsome and debonair, he loves a good snuggle and is passionate about napping.

The Art With Heart event is almost here! Looking for something fun to do outdoors? Perhaps you are an art enthusiast? Join us Sunday, June 13, from noon to 3 p.m., rain or shine, for an art fair at the shelter.

Signed prints and original works by many artists will be included, as well as select handmade objects. James Wyeth, Eric Hopkins, Neil Welliver, Bernard Langlais, Ronald Frontin and many others will be represented in the over 200 works. There will be a $5/$10 bargain section and a creation station for kids. Each attendee receives a free art print.

The shelter will be closed that day, however a special guest appearance by a shelter dog or two may happen.
