Lost, Found and Looking: Ever thought about being a puppy foster parent?

From the desk of Pope Memorial Humane Society’s Foster Coordinator Brandi Moore:

Pope helps hundreds of homeless animals each year by housing and caring for pets in need from local communities. Additionally, when space allows, we take in some puppies and dogs (sometimes kitties, too) from southern rescues in need.

Undoubtedly, you’ve all seen news coverage of the destruction the recent hurricanes and flooding inflicted upon our southern states. Many people and pets lost their homes. The south’s already full shelters and rescues are overflowing with homeless animals.

In response to these recent natural disasters, we thought we could help even more by taking in some additional puppies and their mothers. These cute little pups will have vet health certificates and are allowed to spend their state required five day quarantine period in foster homes, rather than at the shelter.

As much as we’d love to see their adorable little furry faces for those five days, it’s much better for the pups to be in loving foster homes! They’re not here yet, but we’re trying to line up foster homes in advance for when they do arrive. This is where you can help!

Puppies not your cup of tea? No worries! We have many other animals at Pope that also need foster homes for various reasons, such as: medical or behavioral rehabilitation; seniors needing to be in foster homes while they await their forever homes; pregnant/nursing cats and dogs; orphan kittens and puppies; and animals that have been awaiting families of their own for a long time, that could benefit from a foster shelter vacation.
