Lost Found and Looking: One-Eyed Jack says you hold all the cards
From the desk of Pope Memorial Humane Society’s Development Director Chrys deLorimier:
Recently arrived at the shelter is a lovely terrier mix named Jack. He is about 2-and-a-half years old, 20 pounds and a friendly guy.
Recently, he helped us reveal the total fundraising for our Sherman Medical Fund by licking peanut butter off a sign; he seemed thrilled at the chance to be on camera, or maybe it was the peanut butter? He was a little cautious at first, but soon was comfortable being held and cleaning it all. I loved announcing our community’s generosity with this little being.
I am so proud we are able to help out southern dogs here. About a quarter of our dogs come from our partner in South Carolina. Mutts and Mittens Manor is an outfit that goes into area shelters and rescues dogs in danger of euthanasia. They give needed medical care and find shelters up north to take in these dogs. Volunteers each drive to get the dogs to New England.
While we always give priority to local dogs, we find that spay/neutering has been successful here, that there aren’t too many unwanted litters born locally. Imagine if that were the case for cats, and we had to get them from other states!
If interested in Jack or any other pet, fill out the online application at PopeHumane.org. Feel free to call and check in a few business days later so we know just who you are looking for. Our expert matchmakers take it from there!
If you care to help animals, send a check to PMHS, P.O. Box 1294, Rockland ME 04841, or give through the website donate button or on Facebook. All donations are tax-deductible and very appreciated.
The shelter is open by appointment. Out shopping? Supplies can be left at the front door. Top needs are canned cat food (non-seafood pate preferred), paper towels, toilet paper and cleaning wipes. We always need 33-gallon trash bags also.
Thank you for your support.
