New Art Exhibit by Bonnie Brawn at Pope Memorial Humane Society

Pope Memorial Humane Society is thrilled to announce its newest exhibition of artwork, which is now on display on the Art Wall in the shelter’s lobby. The show, featuring pieces by Bonnie Brawn, is on display and available for purchase through August, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting Pope Memorial Humane Society.

“I’ve had an interest in art since forever. I was always drawing all the time. When I was about 12 or 13 I started taking photos and discovered that I liked doing that, too.

When digital cameras came along, I was totally hooked, and now I carry one with me almost everywhere I go. I love to try to capture all kinds of subjects from nature to people and anything in between. I am not a professional and have had no formal training but I enjoy doing this immensely.

My latest endeavor has been to join a group called The Tilly Project: End-of-Life Pet Photography Network. This network connects photographers with pet parents whose pet is nearing the end of its life or there’s a possibility of it occurring soon. The sessions can be wherever and whenever both parties agree to.  I have done one so far and included the owner and both of her dogs even though only one was terminally ill. I’m very glad I did because the other dog has since passed so now she has photos of herself with both of them as well as ones for each of the dogs together and separately. It was an honor to do this and a humbling experience to document the love between people and animals.

Since I’m an opportunist when it comes to finding a good subject, if you see a crazy looking woman with a camera standing still and looking up at a treetop it’s probably me because I’ve seen a bird or an animal.”

Pope Memorial Humane Society is open Monday through Saturday from 11 am to 4 pm. We encourage our community to visit the shelter and see Bonnie’s artwork and all the adoptable animals. If you are interested in exhibiting your work on the PMHS Art Wall, please email art@popehumane.org.
