Bonnie Brann- ARTIST STATEMENT

“My interest in taking photos started when I was 12 and took a decent picture of a horse. Back then everything was on film and I was always anxiously awaiting a package of pictures to come back from being developed.

Developing my own prints was fun but I was very happy when digital was available. I now have both a Canon and a Nikon and I’m rarely without one when I go anywhere.

I have had no formal training but have learned from the advice of other photographers and from experience by having taken thousands of photos.

For about five years now I have made calendars from my photos and have sold them and also have given them as gifts because people have requested them. That’s always a fun project for me to do.

My work has been displayed in various craft shows and at present is at Good Things Thrift and Craft Shop in Waldoboro where I also volunteer. I have also done some weddings, senior portraits and birthdays. My new venture is belonging to an EOL (End of Life) organization which is quite new. Photographers are listed that can be contacted by people who have pets that are terminally ill, or sick, or elderly and who would like to have memories made of them while they are able to. I’ve done one session so far and have found it incredibly moving to do.

It seems like wildlife appears in a lot of my photos but I just enjoy taking photos of most anything. It’s fun!”

Pope Memorial Humane Society is currently open Monday through Saturday from 11 am to 4 pm. We encourage our community to visit the shelter and see Bonnie’s artwork along with the adoptable animals. If you are interested in exhibiting your work on the PMHS Art Wall, please email art@popehumane.org.
