Splash hopes you consider the seniors
From the desk of Pope Memorial Humane Society’s Marketing and PR Manager Kasey Bielecki,
Last Wednesday, I was walking through the cat wing of the shelter. It was pet photo day, the special day each week when we take high-quality photos of all the newly adoptable animals. (Shoutout to volunteer photographer, PJ Walter!)
It’s a fun day. I get to interact with all sorts of animals, learn about their personalities, and brainstorm ideas for adoptable pet promotions. What struck me that day was all the senior cats available for adoption. We know, and you know, it’s kitten season, and many, if not most people are looking for cute and cuddly itty-bitty kittens.
My mind goes to the senior cats. I hate seeing them get overlooked. Ming, Kayla, Sebastian, Kiki, Splash, Pineapple, and more are all looking for new homes. Some older cats come in when their owners can no longer take care of them; others have families who move and can’t take their pets; some owners pass away. There are a variety of reasons animals come into the shelter.
Our goal at Pope Memorial Humane Society is to find them new, loving homes.
By choosing to adopt and care for a cat in its older years, or one who has a medical/physical issue, you are helping a cat live the full life it deserves. It is such a wonderful, fulfilling experience to adopt a cat that might otherwise get looked over.
Remember, no matter their age, they still have love to give. Are you ready to adopt a snuggly, cuddly senior/special needs kitty? If so, visit popehumane.org to see current adoptable animals, and make sure you check out the older cats and dogs.
I must insert a special plug here. If you’re more a fan of rodents, we currently have five gerbils looking for new homes. Gerbils make great companions, becoming very attached to their owners. If you’re looking for a smaller pet, Thing 1, Thing 2, Ice, Lupo or Ninja may be the right fit for you!
Wish list: pate style chicken recipe canned kitten/cat food, Temptation’s cat treats, 8 1/2 by 11 copy paper, angle brooms (synthetic), bleach.
Thank you.
