Whitney and Oakleigh wish for a fur-ever home this Valentines Day
From the desk of Pope Memorial Humane Society’s Shelter Manager Theresa Gargan:
This week’s canine pet pick is the epitome of what a hound should be. Her soulful brown eyes and beautiful hound song tell the tales of hardship this girl has endured. Whitney was found wandering by the side of the road in South Carolina by my niece and her husband.
Emaciated and suffering from heartworm disease, her prospects were less than favorable, but in spite of it all, Whitney had an undeniable spirit. One call to our rescue partner, Mutts and Mittens Manor, and this girl’s life changed forever.
While at the Manor, Whitney received needed medical attention and began to learn what it meant to live inside of a house. She enjoyed it so much, it was hard to actually get her to go out, and once there, she wants nothing more than to get back in.
Whitney is around 6 years old and sports a sleek tri color coat. She does well with other dogs, but might not do as well with cats. She has been learning about leash manners and is doing quite well with it. Being someone’s couch companion would be Whitney’s idea of the perfect life. Hopefully with you?
Our kitty pick is very near and dear to us at the shelter. Oakleigh is an 8-month-old, white and tabby girl, who came to us as a tiny kitten.
While at the veterinarians for her spay, it was noted she had a significant heart murmur. Off she went to foster care with one of our staff to see if time would help the situation.
Unfortunately, it was not to be, and we recently sent Oakleigh to the specialist in Portland for a cardiac workup. It turns out our little girl has a hole in her heart, which is causing the murmur.
The good news is it has not damaged her heart at all and there is no need for surgery at this time. Oakleigh shows no signs of slowing down and would love to finally go home forever. Her dream home would include another cat to rough house with, someone who doesn’t mind help while on the computer and would share their food, as this girl will eat anything!
If interested in Whitney or Oakleigh, call for more information at 594-2200, or find the application at popehumane.org.
This week, our wish list includes 33- gallon trash bags, hot dogs, string cheese and the ever-popular Temptations Cat Treats.
